Troubleshooting
Fixes for the most common problems with translation, subtitles, providers and your account.
Nothing happens when I translate a page
- Check that a provider is chosen for page translation under API Providers → Feature providers, and click Test connection on it.
- If you use the built-in AI on a free account, it only covers custom AI actions. Upgrade, or choose another provider for page translation.
- Check that the site isn’t on a disabled list under Preferences → Extension activation.
- Reload the page. Pages open before Duet Translate was installed or updated need a reload.
- Browser pages such as
chrome://and the Chrome Web Store can’t be translated by any extension.
Some paragraphs aren’t translated
- Set Translation range to All content; Main content skips menus and sidebars.
- Lower the Small paragraph filter under Translation control; short text is skipped by default.
- Paragraphs already in your target language, or in a language under Auto skip based on language, are skipped on purpose.
- A built-in site rule may skip that part of the page. See site rules.
Translations are slow or hit rate limits
Errors such as 429 or “too many requests” mean the provider is refusing requests. Under Page Translation → Translation queue, lower Requests per second and Maximum burst requests. To get through a page faster with an AI provider, raise Maximum paragraphs per request instead, so fewer requests carry more text. A model with a lot of thinking also slows things down; turn reasoning down under the provider’s Advanced options.
The provider says my key is wrong
- 401 or “unauthorized”: copy the key again, without spaces, and check it hasn’t expired.
- 402, 403 or “insufficient quota”: the account needs credit or a payment method on the service’s site.
- 404: the base URL or the model name is wrong. See compatible API providers.
Video subtitles don’t appear
- The video needs subtitles of its own. Duet Translate translates them; it can’t create them.
- Check Video Subtitles → Enable video subtitles, then reload the video page.
- If you just installed or updated the extension, reload the page.
- If AI smart segmentation is on and lines go missing, try a stronger model or turn segmentation off.
The built-in AI stopped working
- Your allowance may be used up. The API Providers page and your account page show what’s left and when it resets.
- Your sign-in may have expired. Open the popup and log in again.
- After upgrading, reload the extension’s settings to pick up the new plan.
I see old translations after changing settings
Translations are cached. Clear them under Page Translation → Cache → Clear cache, then translate the page again.
Still stuck?
Write to support@duettranslate.com with what you did, what you expected and what happened instead. Your raw config from Preferences → Config → Open config helps; remove your API keys from it first.
