Privacy Policy

Last updated October 29, 2026

This policy covers the Duet Translate browser extension, this website and the service behind them ("Duet Translate", "we"). It says what we collect, why, and who we share it with.

The short version

  • Your settings, glossary and translation cache stay in your browser.
  • Text you translate with the built-in AI goes through our server to our AI provider and comes back. We don't keep it.
  • Text you translate with your own API key goes straight to that provider, not to us.
  • We don't sell your data, show ads or use it to train AI models.

What we collect

  • Your account. When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture. We keep them to run your account.
  • Sign-in sessions. A cookie keeps you signed in. With each session we store the IP address and browser it was created from, to protect your account.
  • Subscription. Stripe handles payments. We store your Stripe customer ID, plan, renewal date and whether the subscription is active. We never see your full card number.
  • Built-in AI usage. For each request we count how much text was sent and returned, to enforce your plan's allowance and rate limits. We don't store the text itself.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records request details such as time, IP address and errors, which we use to keep the service running. Logs are kept for a short time.

What stays on your device

The extension stores its settings, glossary, translation cache and any API keys you add in your browser's storage. They don't reach us. If you turn on Google Drive sync, your settings are saved to a private app folder in your own Google Drive, which we can't read.

Text you translate

With the built-in AI, the text you translate and the instructions needed to translate it are sent to our server and on to our AI provider, which processes it to return the translation. We don't store or log that text. With your own API key or a free translation service, the extension sends text directly to the service you picked, under that service's privacy policy.

Who we share data with

  • Cloudflare, which hosts our website, server and database.
  • Stripe, which processes payments.
  • Google, for sign-in, and for the fonts on this website.
  • Our AI provider, an API service that runs the language models the built-in AI uses. It receives only the text being translated.

We share data with these providers only to run Duet Translate, and otherwise only when the law requires it.

Analytics

The website and the extension don't use analytics or advertising trackers. If we add usage analytics to the extension, it will be off until you turn it on, and we'll update this policy first.

Chrome Web Store user data

Duet Translate's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your account until you ask us to delete it. To delete your account and its data, emailsupport@duettranslate.com from the address you signed in with. Billing records may be kept longer where tax law requires. To remove what the extension stores, uninstall it or clear its data in your browser.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to how we use it. Email us to do any of these; we answer within 30 days.

Children

Duet Translate isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date above, and for significant changes we'll tell you by email or in the extension before they apply.
