Read a selection aloud

Select text on a page, then click Speak in the selection toolbar, or press Alt + Shift + R. Press the shortcut again to stop. AI actions such as the dictionary have their own speak buttons too.

Choose voices

Open Text to Speech in the settings.

• Language voice: pick a language, then the voice that reads it. Reset goes back to the voice Duet Translate picks for that language.
• Fallback voice: the voice for any language you haven’t given one of its own.

Voices are available in more than 70 languages. Click a voice to hear a sample.

Speed and tone

Under Speech:

• Rate: faster or slower than the voice’s own pace, from −100 to 100 percent.
• Pitch: higher or lower, from −100 to 100 hertz.
• Volume: louder or quieter, from −100 to 100 percent.

The right voice for the language

Duet Translate detects the language of what you select to pick the voice. Detection can go wrong on a single word or a short phrase; switching Language detection to LLM on the API Providers page makes it more accurate.
