Built-in AI providers

Use your own API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek and more than a dozen other AI services.

These services are set up in Duet Translate already: you only add your API key and pick a model. The address of each service is filled in for you.

Services you can add

OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Google (Gemini), DeepSeek, xAI (Grok), Azure OpenAI, Amazon Bedrock, Groq, DeepInfra, Mistral, Together AI, Cohere, Fireworks, Cerebras, Replicate, Perplexity, Alibaba (Qwen), Moonshot AI (Kimi), Hugging Face and Ollama.

Set one up

  1. On API Providers, click Add provider and choose the service under Built-in LLM providers.
  2. Click Get API key and create a key on the service’s site. Most services need a payment method or prepaid credit before the key works.
  3. Paste the key into API key.
  4. Choose a model, or click Fetch available models to list the ones your key can use.
  5. Click Test connection.
  6. Under Feature providers, choose the features that should use it.

Choosing a model

For translation, a small fast model is usually enough and keeps costs low. Larger models are worth it for AI actions such as the dictionary or sentence analysis, and for AI smart segmentation of subtitles.

A few services need more

  • Azure OpenAI: enter your resource name and use your deployment name as the model. Under Advanced options you can switch the API mode from Responses (the default) to Chat Completions.
  • Amazon Bedrock: choose the region your models are enabled in.

Costs

You pay the service directly for what you use. Translating a long article costs a few thousand tokens. To keep costs down, use Main content as the translation range, keep the pre-translate distance small under Translation queue, and leave AI smart context off.
